Global Financial Integrity (GFI) and the Financial and Economic Analysis Unit (UAFE) of Ecuador signed a Cooperation Agreement to strengthen the fight against corruption and money laundering.

Global Financial Integrity (GFI) and the Financial and Economic Analysis Unit (UAFE) of Ecuador signed an inter-institutional Cooperation Agreement to combat corruption and money laundering. 

The event was held in hybrid mode, and was led by the Director General (e) of the UAFE José Julio Neira, the President and CEO of GFI, Thomas A. Cardamone Jr. and Claudia Helms, Director of GFI’s Latin America and the Caribbean Program.

GFI’s President and CEO, Thomas A. Cardamone Jr. stated that “Today we celebrate a significant step forward in the fight against financial crime by formalizing this strategic alliance between GFI and UAFE. This agreement reflects our joint commitment to transparency, financial integrity and global security.”

For his part, the Director of UAFE, José Julio Neira, pointed out that “For me it is a pleasure to sign this agreement, under the leadership of President Daniel Noboa. Ecuador needs a strengthened UAFE and in order to do so we must begin an integral transformation, analyzing from the inside out.”

The agreement between GFI and UAFE includes training, technical assistance, research and studies. As well as the exchange of knowledge and best practices to promote financial transparency. 

The signing of the agreement ratifies the commitment of both organizations to work together in the comprehensive fight against illicit financial flows and strengthen the capacities of the UAFE to prevent, detect and eradicate these crimes that affect the economy and citizen trust.
