NEW YORK – The UN Secretary-General and the President of the UN General Assembly are convening a High-level Event on the Millennium Development Goals at UN Headquarters in New York today.
Christian Aid issued a statement affirming that tackling illicit business practices which rob the developing world of billions each year is crucial to meeting the MDGs. Earlier this year, Christian Aid released a report on how illegal, trade-related tax evasion was costing the developing world of $160bn a year and today
The substance of today’s meeting is expected to inform discussions at the upcoming follow-up conference on “Financing for Development” to be held in Doha, Qatar, from November 29 to December 2, 2008.
Global Financial Integrity recently competed a study in which it estimated capital flight out of the Democratic Republic of Congo.
