Global Financial Integrity and Belize Network of NGOs Partner to Advance Integrity and Transparency in Belize

Belmopan, BelizeNovember 26, 2024 — Global Financial Integrity (GFI) and the Belize Network of NGOs (BNN) have established a strategic partnership aimed at strengthening corporate, natural resource, and professional integrity in Belize. This collaboration, funded by the Norwegian Agency for Development Cooperation (Norad), is part of an international initiative to enhance domestic resource mobilization and transparency in key sectors.

The partnership combines GFI’s expertise in combating illicit financial flows and BNN’s unified advocacy for non-governmental organizations. Together, the two organizations will address critical governance challenges, emphasizing the importance of capacity building among journalists, civil society, and both public and private sector stakeholders.

Mrs. Claudia Helms, Director for Latin America and the Caribbean at GFI issued the following statement “We are honored to partner with BNN as this collaboration embodies our shared commitment to empowering stakeholders with the tools and knowledge to address systemic challenges..By strengthening the capacity of journalists, private and public sectors, and civil society, we aim to advance beneficial ownership transparency, accountability, and natural resource integrity in Belize.”

BNN echoed this sentiment, emphasizing the transformative potential of this collaboration. “BNN’s partnership with GFI is representative of meaningful collaboration and is designed to achieve significant steps toward fostering transparency, accountability, justice, and stewardship of our shared resources for dignified livelihoods and sustainable development in Belize,” said Dr. Elma Kay, Chair of BNN.

The partnership will focus on key initiatives such as journalist trainings, policy engagements, and public awareness campaigns. These activities aim to equip local stakeholders with the resources needed to drive reforms in corporate transparency, natural resource management, and professional ethics.
