Did you know that of the 68,218 active cargo-carrying vessels on the ocean today, over 12% (8,337) do not list their beneficial owner?

Of those 8,337 vessels, 69.2% have engaged in risky behavior.

A forthcoming white paper on vessel risk coauthored by the Institute of International Banking Law & Practice (IIBLP)Global Financial Integrity, and S&P Global analyzes the relationship between the availability of a vessel’s beneficial owner information and the risk of criminal or sanction-violating behavior. The paper also addresses the relative risks associated with where a vessel is flagged.

On Thursday, April 13 at 10 am, Miller & Chevalier will host a free one-hour event covering the findings and their implications for sanctions compliance and international trade. For those who cannot join in person, Zoom participation is available. The event will be recorded.
