Join Global Financial Integrity as we convene a panel of experts to discuss the impact of real estate money laundering on the U.S. housing market.
GFI, FACT Coalition, Transparency International U.S., and the Action Center on Race and the Economy (ACRE) will be co-hosting this event on September 9th, 2021 at 12pm EDT.
In August, GFI published an in-depth report on real estate money laundering in the United States titled “Acres of Money Laundering: Why U.S. Real Estate is a Kleptocrat’s Dream.” This report found that, at a minimum more than US$2.3 billion has been laundered through U.S real estate in the last 5 years.
The Biden Administration has recently declared the global fight against corruption to be a national security priority. Too often, though, the fight against global corruption and illicit financial flows is seen only as a national security or good governance agenda for U.S. foreign policy concerns, unconnected to domestic policy agendas and the struggles of working Americans.
Real estate money laundering and its effect on the U.S. housing market is one concrete example of how these issues intersect with domestic priorities, including addressing economic inequality.
This panel will explore the issue, delve into GFI’s new report, and discuss how real estate money laundering and corruption affect the lives of U.S. citizens.
