Global Financial Integrity and the Environmental Investigation Agency (EIA) will host a discussion on the drivers of deforestation in Colombia and what can be done to strengthen environmental protection. Our panel of experts will address transparency strategies, trade integrity, regulatory approaches, and private sector initiatives to strengthen supply chain integrity.
GFI’s Illicit Trade Director Channing Mavrellis will present research from the upcoming trade advisory “Out of the Woods: Trade Misinvoicing and Exports of Tropical Timber from Colombia.” Sebastián Goméz, Co-Founder and Director of Centro de Alternativas al Desarrollo (CEALDES), will discuss the status of deforestation in Colombia and initiatives to tackle the issue. Andrés Toro, CEO of Núcleos de Madera, will explore the industry role in enhancing transparency and legality in the timber sector. And Susanne Breitkopf, Deputy Director for the Forest Campaign at EIA, will share documentary evidence of environmental threats regarding illegal logging.
This presentation will be held on Thursday, April 8th at 10:30am EST.
